Hispano-Uruguayan artist born in Montevideo in 1956, Antelo is the son of spanish emigrants who left their country to seek fortune in the New World.
In his childhood, he showed early a special talent for drawing and, later on, he widen his skills by learning the art of painting during his studies of architecture. Then, freshly married, Antelo left his native land to escape the fog of dictatorship that fell on his country. The young couple finally landed in Spain before settling in Switzerland thus repeating the emigrant journey of his parents. Follows a life made of different trades, different countries, breaks and encounters with painting as his only travel diary.
These various stages, sometimes experienced as break-ups, reveal throughout his work a certain obsession with boundaries and metamorphoses. He sure love to blur the lines between reality and imaginary, modernity and tradition, order and disorder.
Antelo seems eager to question our sense of reality, to explore our interpretations of a world that never completely reveal itself. He wants us to remember that the main thing are not the boundaries themselves but the human crossing them.
